The Supermercados are an alternative rock band from Devon, UK. They sound like no-one else because no-one else wants to sound like them. Their aim is to sound like everything you’ve been waiting for but like nothing you’ve ever heard before.
The band comprises Henry "2 For 1" Supermercado (guitar & vocals), Tom "Discount Aisle" Supermercado (guitar & keys), "2nd Hand Dave" Supermercado (Bass) & Matt "Deli Counter" Supermercado (drums).
They bonded over Bod Dylan and Motorhead and their sound has been compared to Pavement, Can, Maximo Park and the Smashing Pumpkins jamming at a house party. Lyrically, The Supermercados are trying to understand what it means to be part of a world that is diluted to the point that beautiful freedom and creativity are algorithms. How scantily-clad songs and the leaders of the world are hand-in-glove, spoon-feeding oppression and ignoring the majority.
The Supermercados are completely DIY, recording live in Dave’s Lounge and have self-produced and independently released 2 singles on their Supermercado Records label. The “Record, Revelations & Revolutions” and “Lights” singles came out in December 2020 and February 2021. Their 3rd single “Silly Games” comes out on 2nd May 2021, with a new version of “Revelations & Revolutions” from the first single as a B-side.
In just a few months, The Supermercados have gained thousands of streams on Spotify and numerous plays on Exeter’s Phonic Fm, Riviera Fm and Phoenix Fm in Essex. They have also been featured as Plankeye Music’s “Artist of the Week” in the USA.
“Absolutely wonderful...an absolute revelation, I do not think you can get much better than that, listen out for it, stunning!” Phonic Fm
“It’s a great song they have sent in. They come from Ottery St Mary, wonder if they take part in the running with barrels, they are pretty hard over there”. Riviera FM
"A vigorous indie rock banger with divine guitar riffs, dynamic vocals, never ending energy, that should be played at maximum volume. By the way, do you remember S*M*A*S*H?" Last Day Deaf
